Gospel: Jn 14:15–16, 23b–26 -
Jesus said to his disciples, “If you love me, you will keep my com-mandments; and I will ask the Father and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever. If anyone loves me, he will keep my word and my Father will love him; and we will come to him and make a room in his home. But if anyone does not love me, he will not keep my words, and these words that you hear are not mine but the Father’s who sent me.
“I told you all this while I was still with you. From now on the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of all that I have told you.”
Reflection:
Read: Jesus promises the apostles a Helper who will make intelligible everything Jesus had taught them. Paul repeatedly affirms that only one who has the Spirit of Christ would belong to Christ and inherit God as one’s own Abba. In the event of Pentecost, Jesus’s promise of the Spirit becomes a reality and the apostles are instantly transformed and begin preaching the Gospel.
Reflect: What are the concrete ways I should keep God’s word in order to claim the Holy Spirit and belong to God as His son/daughter? How well do I use the gifts of the Spirit for building up my community of faith?
Pray: Let us pray for the gifts and fruit(s) of the Holy Spirit in order to be witnesses to the Gospel like the apostles.
Listen: Attentively listen to what the Spirit tells you today.
Act: Sign up to serve in one of the ministries in your parish community. If you are already active in ministry, get a friend to sign up for a ministry.
